MANILA -- Actor Tony Labrusca believes the Sinag Maynila 2024 entry "What You Did" -- where he portrays two "complex" characters -- will showcase his best acting performance yet.

"There are so many push and pull experiences in this project. This is one of the hardest projects I’ve done but this officially the one I'm most proud of. This is probably my best acting piece by far. It is so meaningful now," he said in an interview with ABS-CBN in Quezon City, Wednesday.

Joan Lopez Flores, who wrote and will make her directorial debut with the psychological-thriller, said the story was inspired by her own struggle.

"Something I went through similarly, the psychological journey, recovering from my trauma, actually  childhood trauma— this character came out. A lot of this film is very personal to me," she explained.

"More than being a story in the pandemic, I do not want to brand it as a pandemic movie. It is about what people go through psychologically after being subjected to challenges throughout your life and suddenly something happens— not the pandemic but anything big that can take away opportunities from you," she added.

Labrusca said the plot is highly relatable as he believes everyone has faced some kind of trauma.

And while the actor explained he did not channel his own struggles in bringing to life his characters, he has dealt with his own share of heavy afflictions.

"I was sued three years ago by my own best friend, that was very traumatic... I am a victim of being blamed for sexual harassment. I won my case. It is such a real thing... I almost had my career taken from me. It ruins lives," he said recalling the allegations of acts of lasciviousness that a Makati Court since cleared him of.

"Lahat tayo mag pinagdadaanan. Everybody goes through unknown battles," he added.

According to Labrusca, he has moved on from the incident and it has now strengthened his faith.

"I wish her the best of luck. I have no malice and hate. I won fair and square. It took a whole year. Everybody wanted to believe my case when it was thrown on me. It was really traumatic and it brought me closer to God," he said.

"It is what taught me I have no hate in my heart. That's when I learned it is hard for me to hate somebody," he added.

While Labrusca did not comment if he had been a victim of sexual harassment, he shared he is grateful he is mentally and emotionally strong to rise above challenges.

"I'm still in showbiz or not— whether or not it has happened to me, I am fine. I am happy… I am grateful I don’t put weight on it. I am still doing amazing projects. I know some people experience horrible things and they are unable to move forward in life. Whether or not I experienced it, my point is it is not hindering me from being the best I want to be of my capabilities. Whether or not something happened, I will not let it slow me down," he said.

"It is not that I have never been or felt I was overly sexualized or taken advantage— what I mean is I am grateful it has not affected me in a way where I am unable to do amazing projects. Me here as an actor, I am doing an amazing movie. It has not affected me how it has affected others," he added.
