MANILA -- Screen veteran Albert Martinez said his challenging character as an investigator in "Lavender Fields" was the main reason why he accepted to be part of upcoming ABS-CBN series with Jodi Sta. Maria as the lead star.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, Martinez said that aside from his character, he was also impressed with the superb cast and the drama's narrative.

"Siguro Number 1 would be the casting. We have powerhouse casting dito sa 'Lavender Fields' and that's part of main ingredients of a good project. Then we have two good directors and of course the narrative is something interesting. And then, pinaka-nagbigay sa akin ng yes is the character itself," Martinez, 63, said.

In the series, Martinez plays Zandro Fernandez, an ace investigator whose mission in life is to find justice about his unsolved personal case.

"One of the best investigators sa agency. He's the top, every case na ibinigay sa kanya he was able to solve that's why he was promoted to a higher rank but unfortunately his personal case he failed. So 'yun ang naging misyon niya in life to find justice for that particular case," Martinez said.

In "Lavender Fields," Martinez will be working for the first time with fellow screen veteran Edu Manzano.

"With Maricel, I've worked with her so many times and it's always a pleasure working with Maricel, premyadong aktor. So wala ng hirap. Parang everything is so easy when you work with her. With Edu, we've worked together in a film pero hindi kami nagkasama sa eksena. So first time kami to be in a scene together and being who he is as an actor, how professional he is, ang ganda ng mga eksena namin," Martinez said.
