MANILA -- After 30 years in the industry, Carla Guevara Laforteza, one of the country’s most sought-after performing artists, embraced a new challenge by staging “A La Carlotta,” a concert that showcased her journey in the world of entertainment in the last 3 decades.

“A La Carlotta,” held at the CCP Black Box Theater on Sunday evening, highlights a different side of the acclaimed thespian.

“I do a lot of musical theater. When I sing for events it is usually a musical theater song, broadway. So, when CCP asked me,  I immediately asked Paolo Valenciano to direct. I told him I wanted to do songs I have always wanted to sing and do songs people would not expect me to sing: jazz, rap, it is crazy. They are songs I love listening to but I do not usually sing,”  Laforteza said in an interview.

“I have a chopseuy repertoire tonight. I hope each song will tell a story of my journey in musical theater and the entertainment industry,” she added.

According to the actress, the concert, which she meticulously planned out to the smallest detail, is part of her bucket list.

“It is called A la Carlotta because I can call it mine. It is done my way. It is personal. I was so OC with this concert I fixed the seat plan and kept re-arranging it. It is really special. I can see this is mine. I handpicked every single person involved in this show,” she explained.

Another item on Laforteza’s bucket list she hopes to check off soon is to be able to share the spotlight with her daughter Sophia Laforteza of girl group KASTEYE.

“I hope so! But I can’t afford her,” she jokingly said. “I am so proud of her."
