If you live in the least quiet place in the world, how would you survive monsters who locate and kill people through any kind of sound?

This is the deadly dilemma faced by a character named Sam, played by Lupita Nyong’o in “A Quiet Place: Day One.”

While the previous “A Quiet Place” blockbuster movies show their main characters in faraway places with fewer people, “A Quiet Place: Day One” chronicles the devastating alien attack in New York.

Similar to the past movies starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, the film is not only scary but also features memorable characters to root for.

"She was a departure from myself," Lupita said of her character. "I had played someone who approached life with such a different attitude from how I approached life, and that was what was both scary and exciting about her."

The actress won a Best Supporting Academy Award in 2014 for “12 Years A Slave,” her first feature film.

Asked of her advice to aspiring actresses in growing confidence as a performer, Lupita said it was taking the time to learn more about herself.

"The only way to find that [is] putting yourself in uncomfortable positions more and more," she added. "As an actor, if you lead with your ego, it's very limiting. So, kind of departing from your ego and allowing yourself to fail, and fail well, is the only way you learn."

Lupita stars opposite Joseph Quinn, who first gained notice for the Netflix series "Stranger Things."

In "A Quiet Place: Day One," he plays Eric, who has to quickly learn how to survive.

"This young man who is a reluctant and unconventional hero, in a way, is terrified," said Quinn. "He's far away from home and he meets this person and needs them."

Quinn added that in showing his character's vulnerability, "we can get an insight into who this person is."

"This kind of blew me away if you were, but he does end up displaying enormous feats of heroism," the actor added.

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski.
