MANILA — South Korean rapper Lee Young-ji reposted on Thursday Filipina indie artist Shane G's cover of "Small Girl."

The Korean artist shared in her Instagram story Shane G's short version of the recently released song, adding a heart emoji beside it.

The Filipina singer-songwriter told ABS-CBN News she did not expect the original artist of the song to notice her let alone repost her cover.

"Nagulat ako as in... I really like the song that's why I wanted to make a cover. I didn't expect that Young-ji would actually notice it and she even added it to her IG story," Shane G told ABS-CBN News.

"I was actually going somewhere [when it happened] so talagang medyo spontaneous 'yung cover and no'ng nakita ko sa notifications ko na ni-like niya 'yung cover ko at in-add sa story niya, nag-panic ako," she added.

The local artist also said that she might have just been lucky to catch Young-ji using the social media platform when she posted her cover as the South Korean rapper reposted Shane G's version less than an hour after it was posted. 

"Iniisip ko nga baka nasakto ring she was on Instagram that time. Ang bilis kasi ng pangyayari rin. Basta super unexpected! Thank you so much Lee Young-ji for noticing my cover," Shane G said.

"Small Girl" was released last June 21, 2024, and featured South Korean singer-actor and member of K-pop boy group EXO Doh Kyung-soo, also known as D.O.

Young-ji rose to fame after winning in South Korean variety shows "Show Me the Money 11" and "High School Rapper 3."

Shane G, or Shane Garcia, is an indie singer and songwriter from Bulacan who released her debut single "Loved" back in 2020.
