MANILA — Comedianne Melai Cantiveros said Tuesday that she is open to take on the lead role of "Ang Tanging Ina" but had reservations.

Cantiveros was asked about it during a press conference for her upcoming talk show "Kuan-On-One," which hopes to put Bisaya talent on the spotlight.

To air on July 2, "Kuan-On-One" will feature talents like BINI members Colet and Aiah, Kim Chiu, Maymay Entrata, Christian Bables, among others.

Speaking to reporters, Cantiveros was asked if she was open to take on the lead role of "Ang Tanging Ina" originally played by Aiai delas Alas.

Cantiveros said she would be open to do it but doesn't want to "bypass" the original actress and other more senior comediannes.

"Kung i-offer sa 'kin, why not? Sobrang happy pero hindi natin i-bypass si Ms. Aiai delas Alas kasi siya talaga ang ating Queen of Comedy... Dami niya nang napatunayan. Nandiyan pa sina Ate Pokey (Pokwang), sina Eugene Domingo," Cantiveros said.

"Kaya kung i-kuan why not pero wala tayong mga hurt na mga tao," she added.

She then said it might be better to create a entirely new project.

"Gawa na lang tayo ng sarili natin" Cantiveros said. "'Kuan Ng Ina,' char char lang."

Delas Alas took on the role of Ina Montecillo in the hit movie "Ang Tanging Ina" released in 2003.

The show had two follow-up film such as: "Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat" in 2008 and "Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last na 'To!)" in 2010.
