Despite acting for a little over a decade now, Owen Teague said playing Noa in the “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” was still a huge challenge for him.

The 25-year-old shared that when he landed the lead role, he observed animal behavior at a sanctuary to learn how to move as an ape.

Teague, with his co-cast members, also studied ape movements from Andy Serkis, who played the lead role of Caesar in the previous “Planet of the Apes” movies.

Serkis is now part of the new film as a consultant.

“It defined the job for me,” said Teague. “It helped me find a new way to work. I think it taught me a little bit to not get so obsessed with the idea of getting things right."

Teague continued: "It helped me be okay with imperfections and experimentation making choices that I didn't necessarily know were going to work.”

Seeing the film on the big screen for the first time was an unforgettable experience for Teague.

“It was really satisfying and that kind of makes sense with how every day felt on the set,” he added. “It was one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had.”

Turning human actors into digital apes was made through the performance capture technology of the visual-effects award-winning team of Wētā FX.

Meanwhile, actress Freya Allan lends the important human presence in the film through her character Nova.

Entering the wild “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” was a challenge for any person, but Allan imbued her character with intelligence and grit.

The actress credited the film’s director Wes Ball for getting her through the most difficult scenes.

“Having him was a glorious experience,” said Allan. “I'm very glad he could guide me through all that kind of tricky stuff by doing scenes on my own.”

She added: “Coming out of this job, I also have more confidence or more interest in wanting to make mistakes and really play and be okay in the imperfections.”
