MANILA -- Singer-actor Juan Karlos Labajo is proud and supportive of his girlfriend, Dia Maté, who is representing Cavite in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

"I'm definitely proud of her. This is what I keep on telling her - as long as she's enjoying what she's doing and as long as that's what she wants to do, that's something I'll support," Labajo said in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News.

On April 24, Labajo had requested support for Mate, asking his followers on Instagram to download the Miss Universe Philippines app where they can vote for the beauty queen.

Labajo posted a photo of with Mate last Valentine's Day. Speculations about Labajo and Mate's relationship started after she greeted the singer-songwriter on his birthday last February.

Meanwhile, Labajo also thanked National Artist Ryan Cayabyab for his recent words of praise.

"The Maestro" had commended Labajo, calling him very mature for his age and lauding his musical talents.

"Oh Mr. C! Really, thank you. I really appreciate all the nice words. He invited me [to his concert], along with so many different artists. I just feel really honored because I really look up to Mr. C not just as a National Artist but as a songwriter. Really, really, really amazing songwriter," said Labajo.

Labajo is set to perform in Cayabyab's concert, "Gen C," on May 12 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, where he and other OPM artists will also celebrate the 70th birthday of "The Maestro."

Aside from the concert, Labajo is also looking forward to "High Street" -- the newest offering of ABS-CBN and Dreamscape Entertainment that is a sequel to "Senior High." Labajo portrays the character of Gino in the show.

He is also working on the release of his new album which features collaborations with various OPM artists.
