Medwin Marfil, lead vocalist of the 90s rock band True Faith, recently shared on his personal Facebook account that he got married to Mark Angeles last May 11 at Rockaway Beach in Pacific, California.

The post went viral and made headlines on entertainment news portals.

Sharing their love story for the very first time with ABS-CBN News, Medwin and Mark expressed their gratitude and appreciation to all those who sent their messages of love and best wishes.

"Excited ako sa new chapter ng buhay ko kasama si Mark. We’re very grateful to all those people who showed their support online, they’re very generous with their wishes. We’re just very happy," said Medwin.

After the intimate wedding, which was attended by close family members and friends, Medwin was still undecided whether to post and share the good news on social media.

Mark said, "'Are you sure? Are you ready? How the people... kung tatanggapin?' Simple lang ang sabi ko kay Med about it. Sabi ko sa kanya, you just need to be true to yourself.”

How Mark and Medwin met

Mark and Medwin had known each other since high school as they were batchmates at Don Bosco Makati. But they weren’t friends back then: Medwin said Mark was hanging out with the cool kids, while he was the shy type.

"We really didn’t know each other. Kasi barkada niya (Mark) sina Nino Muhlach. Eh ako, introvert ako wala ako masyadong friends, busmates and villagemates na Bosconian din," said Medwin.

After 25 years, their batch had a grand homecoming reunion and Medwin, being part of the famous True Faith band, performed with his bandmates.

Mark was there but they didn’t have the chance to catch up and talk. Medwin already noticed Mark from a distance, but was unsure who he was. This was 2013.

Fast forward to 2020, during the global pandemic lockdown, Mark and Medwin reconnected again. Medwin was in Paranaque City while Mark was in California.

"Pandemic started, and everybody was just active on social media. So a lot of Zoom [calls] ng mga friends. Doon kami nag-start. Nag-reconnect kami through Facebook. We were chatting for a bit tapos naputol siya. I think that was sometime in April 2021," shared Mark.

He continued, "Nung June, nag-usap kami ulit. I think around that time, meron nang naging serious na 'yung usapan. Nagkaroon na ng revelation. I think part of it also, parang sabi ko nga 'yung realization from COVID, that life is short, life is uncertain. We need to be happy, we need to enjoy."

"At that point, sabi ko I feel something. And I feel na meron din siya. So sabi ko, let me bite the bullet, and ask the question."

What did he ask Medwin?

"I can’t remember the exact words, but I think it’s somewhere along the lines of, 'I like you, I think I have some feelings towards you.' Kumbaga sa nanliligaw parang ganun diba. Eh, biglang nagreciprocate naman, yes din daw siya."

They virutally and officially became a couple in June of 2021, and met again the following year.

"A year after naging kami, that was the first time we met each other in person as kami," said Mark.

He added, "During the first year, 'yun na 'yung testing namin. Kasi 'yun na 'yung in person eh. Kausap ko siya every day. Doon namin slowly tinitignan kung okay ba talaga, compatible ba talaga tayo in person?"

Based on their timelines, they tied the knot a month ahead of their third anniversary as a couple.

The proposal

Back in 2022 when they first saw each other and spent time together, Medwin with his brother and other OPM bands Rivermaya and Introvoys did a show in the US called "OPM Summerfest."

That day when he was about to fly out of San Francisco back to Manila, Mark popped the question.

"'Yung 2022, bago ako umuwi. Naglakad kami betwen Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, naglakad kami. Then biglang may engagement ring," said Medwin.

He continued, "Sabi ko, 'okay, nakakatuwa.' Sabi ko, 'I accept.' Kasi parang he's worried na baka hindi na ko bumalik. Sabi ko, 'Mark, you're worth coming back.'"
