Award-winning documentary maker Baby Ruth Villarama is now in the South of France to attend the 77thCannes International Film Festival.

She told ABS-CBN News Europe that her upcoming film project, a documentary on the life of OPM icon Pilita Corrales, is in very early stages of production work but it will be introduced in this week’s Cannes Producer’s Network and Spotlight Asia.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture a person’s colorful life that defies limitations, language, and dialect,” said Villarama.

She added: “When I was approached to do Pilita’s story by Janine Gutierrez and Raymond Ang, it’s one of those projects that you simply have time to say yes and be ready for it.

Actress Janine Gutierrez, the granddaughter of Corrales, also posted on the Instagram account about the project.

Villarama also said she is targeting to start principal photography in August.

“PILITA is my grandmother’s love story and our country’s remaining line to that wishful, nostalgic era so it’s like a tall order from destiny. I’m both excited and honored to work with Janine Gutierrez, Chuck Gutierrez, and Raymond Ang to make sure we unravel something more beautiful from an iconic pillar of OPM,” said Villarama.

The Festival de Cannes officially opened on Tuesday, May 14 and will end on May 25, 2024.
