MANILA -- At the wake of the award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose, ABS-CBN News bumped into a familiar face from the '80s: Stella Suarez Jr.

Suarez is one of the early friends of Jaclyn Jose when they started doing daring and sexy movies in 1984. Jose’s launching movie was "Chikas," while Suarez’s was "Mahilig."

They didn’t work together, but they were under the same management of Baby Pascual, who then had Baby Pascual Films. They also lived in one house then.

“Doon kami sa Gilmore Time. Kapitbahay pa namin si Charito Solis. Masaya kami, no dull moment,” recalled Suarez, whose real name is Pinky Suarez.

Work was fun for the two young actresses, but life after work was more fun.

“After work, as usual, ano ba 'yung nagpapa-relax sa amin -- beer. Nagbibiruan kami,” Suarez said.

They have been friends since 1985, and since then, haven’t lost touch. They even have a group chat with a name "4th power" with only four members, who lived under the same roof together during their Gilmore days.

“38 years na kaming magkakaibigan. May group chat kami na solid friends nung '80s. Kung sino lang 'yung mga kasama namin sa bahay. So si Jane, gusto niya pag-usapan natin sa group chat 'yung masasaya nating ano. So alam na namin na sa dami ng trabaho gusto niya 'pag nasa bahay lang siya, masaya lang,” Suarez said.

In her early days, Jose (whose name is Mary Jane Guck) used to have her screen name spelled as ‘Jacklyn’ with a ‘k’, but later on was dropped to just ‘Jaclyn’. 

Suarez revealed she never doubted that her friend would go a long way in the industry.  

“Seryoso siya. Talagang natural na sa kanya. Minsan, nag-script reading kami. Dun pa lang alam ko na,” she said.

And Jose didn’t mind doing sexy movies back then. “Basta alam niya na hindi pangit. Seryoso talaga siya sa pag-arte. Gifted siya, sa mata pa lang niya.”

Suarez recalled one incident during Jose’s very first sexy pictorial.

“May pictorial ang mga hawak noon ni Baby Pascual. Under kami noon kay Baby Pascual. So ako 'yung nag-o-oil sa kanya. Suportahan kami. Confident siya noon, nung first sexy pictorial niya kasi nandoon ako, 'yung friend niya kasama niya sa bahay.”

Now that Jose is gone, all Suarez has with her are the fond memories with her good friend.  

“4th power group, tatlo na lang. 'Yung happy memories namin since 1985 hanggang sa mga kalokohan namin pag nag-uusap sa group chat, 'yun na lang natirang memories namin,” she said.

Suarez is the sister of Richard Gomez. The late Douglas Quijano, who became the manager of Gomez, coined the ‘Jr.’ in Stella’s screen name to attract attention.
