Not too long ago, finding a Filipino character in a primetime TV series in America was not easy.

But Hollywood has since come a long way in seeing the value of diverse talents and stories.

The hit TV series “The Cleaning Lady” stars several Filipino talents led by Martha Millan who plays Fiona, one of its main characters.

In season three, Fiona returns to the Philippines after working as an undocumented immigrant in the U.S. for several years.

“You always have to try to find the lining throughout this show,” said Millan. “I was very happy that they were looking forward to continuing the story.

The actress also described as “authentic” the feeling of working with fellow Filipinos such as Princess Punzalan and JB Tadena on the show.

“It was just really wonderful and empowering,” Millan added, “to be surrounded by Filipino actors and portray our culture in a way that is exciting and it's like part of the show's journey.”

In the first episode with scenes set in the Philippines, Fiona reunites with her parents played by Alberto Isaac and Princess Punzalan.

The actress previously talked about her first experience as a guest star in the show in 2022.

“It’s surreal,” Punzalan shared. “I used to just dream about it, and now it’s for real that I’m doing it. And it’s nice to be working with other people who have other experiences.”

The production team of “The Cleaning Lady” in New Mexico also worked hard to recreate the Manila scenes.

“Kung Fu” actor JB Tadena is joining the show as someone from Fiona’s past in the Philippines.

Twin child actors Sebastien and Valentino LaSalle play Luca, the son of “The Cleaning Lady” herself Elodie Yung.

The show also regularly features the music of Ruby Ibarra. The Filipino-American artist also performs on-screen this season.
