Launched under Hybe's sub-label Belift Lab, which also houses boy band ENHYPEN, ILLIT was formed in 2023 through the reality competition series "R U Next?".  It consists of Korean idols Yunah, Minju and Wonhee alongside Japanese members Moka and Iroha.

The group's name (pronounced as I'll-it) is a combination of "I will" and "it," with the verb in between left unspecified to signify the team's "limitless potential."

"We'll strive to become a group that creates relatable music, telling our genuine stories," Wonhee said through an interpreter at a media showcase livestreamed from Seoul.

The quintet released the extended play "Super Real Me," consisting of four tracks about "teenager’s thoughts, emotions, and everyday lives."

The EP is fronted by the single "Magnetic," which Wonhee said "depicts the candid confidence of a teenage girl approaching her crush."

"'Magnetic' is a song that [producer Bang] wrote for us. In order to add to the song's authenticity, teenage producers who know how to portray the true feelings of teens also took part in producing the track," she said.

As the latest group from Hybe, Minju acknowledged that "we have a lot of seniors we can learn from, look up to and a lot of people who support us."

"We try to remember this, do our best and we practice a lot. We'll work hard to live up to your expectations," she said.

Hybe is composed of various sub-labels that manage popular K-pop acts, including BTS, Tomorrow X Together, Seventeen and NewJeans, among others.

The group hopes to get first place on a Korean music show with "Magnetic" and win the rookie of the year prizes at year-end award shows.

"We want to be the best newbies of the year. And this is an award we can get only when we're rookies so it means so much," Moka said.

Asked what sets ILLIT apart from other K-pop acts, Minju responded: "We're always super immersed in the moment and I hope the fans will love that as well."

"I think we have our own charms. We're candid, frank and we have this audacious side of us and these whimsical, witty sides of us that we're going to show to the public," Yunah added.
