English singer Zayn Malik has released his new song "What I Am" and announced the launch date for his upcoming album.

In "The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon", Malik revealed that his fourth studio album "Room Under The Stairs" will be released on May 15.

He also unveiled "What I Am" as its lead single, saying that he has been working on the album for years.

"This song is the first release of a special project we been working on for years," he said.

"Thank you for all the love and support on ‘What I Am’... Wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you," he added in another post.

Malik rose to fame in 2010 after finishing third in “The X Factor UK” with One Direction, the group formed by Simon Cowell from eliminated male acts in the competition.

They are known for their hit songs “What Makes You Beautiful,” "Kiss You", and "You and I.”

Malik left the group in 2015 and the boy band still released an album, but went on indefinite hiatus afterward as the members pursued solo careers.

He has released three solo albums: "Mind of Mine" (2016), "Icarus Falls" (2018), and Nobody Is Listening (2021).

As a solo artist, Malik came out with songs like "Pillowtalk," "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" with Taylor Swift, and "Dusk Till Dawn" with Sia.

He is the only artist to win the Billboard Music Award for New Artist of the Year twice -- as a member of One Direction in 2013 and as a solo artist in 2017.
