K-pop singer Wendy of Red Velvet unveiled Tuesday her second extended play (EP) "Wish You Hell," hoping to deliver a "bright" and "positive energy" to listeners.

"In life, we can get tired of our everyday lives, so for people who need something new, the album captures [a] bright energy for people who want to escape," the 30-year-old vocalist said in a subtitled YouTube livestream held an hour before the EP's release.

"I wanted to give people the sense of freedom and my positive energy through music," she said.

Composed of six tracks, "Wish You Hell" is Wendy's latest solo offering in almost three years, following her debut EP "Like Water" from April 2021.

"'Like Water' was an album to comfort people who are down. This time, the [EP's] title is fierce," she said.

"Wish You Hell" is led by the single of the same title, which Wendy described as a song that contains her own story.

"This song is about my past self who did what others wanted and saying [goodbye] to that self and finding my real self," she explained.

"It has catchy band sounds and it is a pop song. It has a different vibe from my previous song," she said.

The song's upbeat mood is a far cry from Wendy's past ballad singles "Like Water" and "When This Rain Stops."

Wendy also shared that she pitched "a lot of ideas" for the song's music video.

"My company likes to capture [the] clean and beautiful sides of the artist. I said it is okay, I wanted something more rough and raw," she said.

Born Son Seung-wan, Wendy debuted in 2014 as a member of Red Velvet, known for songs such as "Red Flavor" and "Psycho."

Last December, Wendy visited the Philippines, performing at a New Year countdown celebration in Taguig with bandmates Irene and Seulgi.
