MANILA — The world of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) is mourning the loss of one of its pillars, composer Ernesto dela Peña, who passed away on March 12.

Fondly called Mang Ernie, Dela Peña produced several timeless classics across his four-decade career, including "Lupa," "Araw-Araw, Gabi-Gabi," "Magsayawan," "Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito," and "Tawag ng Pag-ibig.”

His songs also gave life to many ABS-CBN shows.

The inspirational “May Bukas Pa” served as the theme song for the show of the same title.

He also wrote the lyrics of “Kapalaran,” the theme song of "FPJ’s Batang Quiapo."

He was also among the catalysts of the careers of iconic OPM artists such as Rico J. Puno, Didith Reyes, Sharon Cuneta, Leah Navarro, and VST & Company.
