Actor Song Kang, who stars in the apocalyptic horror series "Sweet Home," is set to enlist in the South Korean military in April.

Song's agency Namoo Actors made the announcement on Thursday through a statement, Korean entertainment news portal Soompi reported.

"Song Kang will be enlisting as an active duty soldier of the [Republic of Korea] Army on Tuesday, April 2," Namoo Actors said in the statement published in full by Soompi.

"There will be no official events held when he enters the recruit training center, and he will be enlisting privately to prevent safety accidents due to congestion on site, so we ask for your understanding," the company told fans.

All able-bodied men under the age of 30 must perform around two years of military service in South Korea, mainly because the country remains technically at war with North Korea.

Dubbed as the "Son of Netflix" because most of his shows are available on the streaming platform, the 29-year-old actor gained popularity through the romance series "Love Alarm" in 2019.

He shot to wider fame through "Sweet Home" which will drop its third season later this year.

Last year, Song visited Manila for a fan meeting at the Araneta Coliseum, telling his Filipino supporters that he gains "so much strength and energy from all of you."
