MANILA -- Kaila Estrada admitted that there is a conscious effort on her part to stay away from the shadow of her parents, screen veterans Janice de Belen and John Estrada.

"I will be honest, yes there is," she told MJ Felipe on "On Cue" after signing contract with ABS-CBN on Monday, February 19. "Although I am very grateful for my parents and for what they've accomplished in the industry, and I am very proud to be their daughter."

"But siyempre, there's also a part of me that wants to be... siguro recognized for what I can bring to the table, rather than be known as as my parents' daughter. And I think that's fair to say, hindi ba?" she continued. "I wouldn't say there's a huge effort to do so, but I am just glad din na people are starting to appreciate the characters that I portrayed. And that, for me, is the biggest win already."

"Si Mama kasi, she's always been my hero -- si Mama. Though she's not a stage mom and she's not constantly there or watching over me which I appreciate now that I'm older, I realized that a lot of my strength comes from her talaga," she said.
