Raymond Lee is busy leading his own show “Quantum Leap.”

But while that is the case, he said he is ready to fly in a heartbeat if Tom Cruise calls to have him play a more prominent role in the recently announced “Top Gun: Maverick” sequel.

Lee, along with Filipino actor Manny Jacinto, and Kara Wang, were part of the team but unfortunately didn’t have much screen time in the movie.

The actor admitted that his social media post about the “Top Gun” sequel is a playful nudge to its producers to cast the film’s Asian stars as the co-leads this time around.

“I definitely put that up hoping and wishing that some folks involved on that creative side would be thinking in that direction,” said Lee. “‘Top Gun’ was a perfect movie but what could have made it even more perfect was if they included us a little bit more in it. Especially now.”

Despite major strides in representation in recent years, Lee is still one of the few Asian American actors leading a show on network TV.

Asked how he would compare himself from when he was just starting in his career to now, Lee said: “[I’m] just more sure of my capabilities to do something like this.”

“I've just had so much more experience in front of the camera [and] behind the camera,” he added. “Stuff like this, it only really comes through repetition. So, I feel very grateful for the opportunity to get all those repetitions.”

The actor started his TV career in 2012 through a minor role in “How I Met Your Mother” and patiently worked his way up to starring roles.

He recently acted opposite Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone in the film “The Unknown Country.”

Lee considers agreeing to play the part in Quantum Leap as his own biggest leap of faith.

“Initially, I rejected it in my mind because maybe I wasn't ready, or maybe this isn't the part for me,” he shared. “But I know that that fear was sort of getting in the way. And really, others saw me in this part before I saw myself in it.”

He added: “I knew this was something that I've always wanted to do. But [it] was the people who took a leap in actually wanting to cast me and reaching out to me, and they saw something in me before I saw it.”

“Quantum Leap” airs on NBC and streams on Peacock.
