MANILA -- American actress Jodie Foster is back on television in "True Detective: Night Country," the newest season of the critically acclaimed "True Detective" series.

Foster sat down with ABS-CBN News and shared what made her say yes to this project, not just as a lead actor but also as an executive producer.

“I read the first episode of our season, and I just fell in love with it. But mostly, just falling in love with that story, with the things that intrigued me when I needed to learn, that to me is really rare,” said Foster.

Foster plays Detective Liz Danvers who is trying to solve the disappearance of eight men were operating the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in fictional town of Ennis, Alaska. In trying to solve the case, Danvers butts heads with Trooper Evangeline Navarro played by Kali Reis.

Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, with Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and John Hawkes also star in the series.

Foster said she fell in love with the passion and work ethic of Issa Lopez, who served as the showrunner and writer of all six episodes.

“She’s probably my favorite director I’ve worked with. She’s smart, she’s funny, she’s humble, she’s a great writer. But at the same time, she’s the first one on the dance floor, she’s the first one to say I was wrong, what was I thinking. She has the kind of humanness that I really appreciate,” the actress said.

Foster’s filmography is very impressive. From the critically-acclaimed movie ‘Silence of the Lambs’, ‘Panic Room’, ‘Contact’, ‘Flight Plan’ -- her movies have spanned decades.

When asked how she feels that her body of work has been embraced globally by fans, she said: “It’s humbling, sometimes it makes you scared ‘cause you’re hoping that what you love will be relevant to other people. That your truth can be recognized by other people with their truth as well, that’s what you hope for.”

The award-winning actress also shared why making movies and portraying characters are close to her heart.

“Movies are so important to me, growing up. So important as a touchstone to let me see myself, in other ways, other opportunities and other places. Especially international films, I grew up with my mom taking me to foreign films mostly European films -- and neither of us have been out of the country so there’s France, there’s Italy, there’s Japan, there’s the Philippines, and we we became to embrace the world thru film,” she said.

In this age of streaming, Foster admitted that the film industry has changed, and agreed that there is a need to adjust and adapt to the new era of filmmaking.

“This is now. I think right now, the most exciting pieces of narrative or artform are on streaming. For me, that’s what I’m excited for awards show, is for streaming shows, best work it’s been done. I’m really proud to be part of that,” she said.

“There was a big change in our industry. We were bifurcated between television streaming and theatrical streaming. A lot of pointing fingers who started it and all that, but I think you have to evolve with the times, and I just want to act and create. It doesn’t matter to me what platform it’s on. The habits have changed. My habits have changed. I watch everything exclusively on my home screen. And I know that’s the way for the future.”
