MANILA --  Television host Ion Perez withdrew his candidacy for councilor in Concepcion, Tarlac.

Perez made the announcement through a social media post on Monday night.

The "It's Showtime" host started by thanking his supporters in Concepcion and said that he would no longer run as councilor, explaining that he needed to prepare himself to be a public servant.

Paumanhin po," he added.

Last October, Perez filed his certificate of candidacy to run for councilor in his hometown, Concepcion.

Perez is the long-time partner of superstar comedian Vice Ganda.
