MANILA  -- Award-winning and critically acclaimed actress Gina Pareño is turning 77 this Sunday, October 20.

ABS-CBN News sat down with Pareño at her residence and talked about life at 77, her birthday wish, and what she misses the most.

“Buhay pa! Alive and kicking!” she said.

She added: “Nalulungkot ako 'pag hindi ako umaarte.

Tagal-tagal, parang Iba 'yung shooting, 'yung ganun. Taping.”

Pareño started her career in the '60s when she was 17. Ever since she was a kid, she already felt that she wanted to act. Nalulungkot ako pag walang arte at saka walang kamera.”

“What would you like to be when you grow up, I want to be a movie actress… totoo 'yun,” she said.

During our conversation, we looked back at some of her notable works -- films that gave her international accolades such as "Kubrador," "Serbis," her iconic donning of the Darna costume, playing Lola Gets in "Tayong Dalawa," and her iconic performance in the "Maalala Mo Kaya" episode "Rehas."

While trying to recall her past projects and people she worked with, she suddenly turned emotional when she shared how she misses being in front of the camera.

Tapos 'pag wala akong labas, para bang wala nang nagmamahal,” she said.

“Unhappy ako, 'pag hindi ako umaarte. Walang ilaw, walang kamera. Alam kong nasa kwarto lang ako. Parang nakalimutan na nila ako.”

Pareño kept on repeating and wishing how she wanted to go back to acting. She just wrapped up a movie project but wanted to do more.

May mine-memorize ka,” she said.

During the pandemic and up to this day, Pareño turned to TikTok so she can unleash her thirst for acting, even on a small screen. But she wants to be back on a set, with the crew, director and co-actors.

Her plea to her colleagues?

Her three dogs have been giving her joy everyday.

“Sobra!

And her wish for her 77th birthday, “Pelikula, television project. Makaarte. Mailawan. Sana makaarte ako ulit, sana maaalala nila ako. Hay naku, laking tuwa ko.”
