MANILA — Quezon City 5th District Councilor Alfred Vargas has filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection.

The actor-politician filed his COC at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City on Tuesday, the first day of filing. He was accompanied by his wife Yasmine Espiritu.

In previous interview, Vargas said that public service is his top priority.

“My vocation is really public service. Kung papipiliin ako, I will always choose public service. I have no plans this year (to produce films) kasi ang [priority] ko ay public service. For now, my brother is doing a very good job as congressman. We let him excel and we let the people decide. My brother will run for congressman and I will run for councilor,” he previously said.

A Management Economics graduate from the Ateneo de Manila University, the actor is the son of the late lawyer Susana “Ching” Vargas, who previously worked as deputy executive secretary for finance and administration in Malacanang, under three former presidents, Corazon Aquino, Fidel Ramos and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

He first won a seat in Congress in 2013. His brother, Patrick Michael "PM" Vargas represents Quezon City's 5th District at the House of Representatives.

Vargas had auditioned for Star Magic Batch 10, which included Bea Alonzo, Dennis Trillo and Nadine Samonte.
