MANILA, Philippines — Thousands followed the highly publicized "bigwasan" match between actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos, only to find out later on that it was just part of a social experiment.

In a press conference on December 6, Matos confirmed speculation that the feud was staged. He denied, however, that their URCC match, which ended in draw, was scripted.

It is, he said, the only "real" thing of everything that happened.

"Trabaho naman namin yun as actors to make it look like we had a feud. What I tell everybody, sa lahat ng nangyari sa amin ni Baron, only the fight was real," he told reporters.

Matos acknowledged that they considered faking the fight, but it would have been unfair for those who bought tickets to watch them live at the Valkyrie Club in Bonifacio Global City.

"Supposedly, Baron and I were talking na we could choreograph the fight but we decided not to choreograph para isabuhay 'yung role namin sa storyang 'yun at binigay namin lahat," Matos said.

"Kung 'yung ibang tao inisip nila na hindi kami nagkabasagan ng mukha, well first of all hindi kami fighters. We’re not really trained fighters pero lumaban kami hanggang sa nawalan kami ng hininga, hanggang sa na-drop kaming pareho."

Matos also revealed that the social experiment will be featured in a documentary project, for which he turned down talent fees.

According to Matos, the "bigwasan" match was one of the projects that reaffirms his role as an actor, forcing him to step out of his comfort zone and do something he has never tried before.

"Ang instructions sa amin ng project director namin ay gampanan niyo 'yung character niyo na kung paano 'yung description na, 'Ikaw Kiko Matos alam natin hindi ka basagulero pero basagulero ka ngayon. Isa kang mayabang na basagulero na maangas na naging katapat si Baron Geisler,' " he said.

Last week, Beastmode Productions revealed on a Facebook post that the series of controversial fights and confrontations involving Geisler were all staged. But they denied involvement in the urinating incident between Geisler and his co-actor Ping Medina, which once again placed the actor in boiling waters.

Among those who expressed dismay with Geisler are Film Development Council of the Philippines chair Liza Diño, film maker Arlyn Dela Cruz, and other concerned affiliates of the film industry.

The "Beastmode" documentary will be released on December 15.
