Long-time fans of Kim Chiu would know of her colorful upbringing, having moved residences frequently in her younger years.

Having been based in Cebu City and Tacloban for a time, the actress learned the areas’ respective native language. With her Chinese heritage, Chiu is also familiar with Mandarin.

Chiu’s multilingual skills were put to the test in StarStudio’s translation challenge, where she spoke different phrases in English, Bisaya, Waray and Mandarin.

Chiu, whose mainstream roles on TV and films almost exclusively see her speaking only Tagalog and English, previously wowed “It’s Showtime” with her fluency in Bisaya.

At the time, a contestant from Davao del Norte appeared to have difficulty expressing himself in Tagalog, prompting guest host Chiu to translate his answers, as well as the judges’ comments between Bisaya and Tagalog.

Chiu’s StarStudio guesting was part of her promotional cycle for “One Great Love,” a Metro Manila Film Festival entry which co-stars her, JC de Vera, and Dennis Trillo.
