MANILA -- With back-to-back films pairing her anew with former leading men, Sharon Cuneta has proven that nostalgia, packaged in quality offerings, can be bankable and even become blockbusters.

“Unexpectedly Yours,” her 2017 comeback film with ex-boyfriend and onscreen partner Robin Padilla, raked in some P250 million at the box office.

The just-released “Three Words to Forever,” which reunites her with another past boyfriend and leading man Richard Gomez, is similarly expected to be a big hit.

That the nostalgic pairings would generate “kilig” among long-time fans are not unexpected for Cuneta, she said in an earlier interview, but millennials freshly discovering and appreciating her returning tandems is a pleasant surprise.

With Cuneta paving the path for comebacking love teams, here’s a look at other team-ups we’d love to see also returning to the big screen:

SHARON CUNETA AND GABBY CONCEPCION

Formerly married and with one daughter, Cuneta and Concepcion delighted fans early this year when they reunited for a fastfood chain ad. Talks of a big-screen project followed, but that fell through, with Cuneta hinting their relationship has turned sour again due to professional differences. Instagram: @reallysharoncuneta

JUDY ANN SANTOS AND WOWIE DE GUZMAN

Santos and de Guzman were one of the most popular love teams of the early ‘90s. Their romantic team-up formed on the soap opera “Mara Clara,” and spilled over to real life, Santos recalled in a 2014 interview. Their last co-starring project was the movie “Luv Text” in 2001. Star Cinema

CLAUDINE BARRETTO AND MARK ANTHONY FERNANDEZ

Prior to her love team with the late Rico Yan, Barretto had an onscreen and real-life partner in Fernandez. Early this year, Fernandez signed up with Viva Artists Agency, which also manages Barretto’s career, paving the way for a planned reunion project. Star Cinema

JERICHO ROSALES AND KRISTINE HERMOSA

It has been nearly two decades since Rosales and Hermosa were first paired onscreen in “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” and subsequently became a real-life couple. Their last project together was the teleserye “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” in 2009. The two are now married to their respective partners. ABS-CBN

MARICEL SORIANO AND WILLIAM MARTINEZ

Launched in the early ‘80s, this love team starred in a string of romantic comedy films. They most recently co-starred in the TV5 drama anthology “Untold Stories” in 2012. Regal Films

LEA SALONGA AND AGA MUHLACH

Their team-up, unlike most love teams, did not span several films or TV shows, but Salonga and Muhlach are considered to this day one of the most unforgettable big-screen pairings. A reunion film has long been anticipated, but the two stars’ respective schedules never seem to align. Star Cinema/ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project

ALBERT MARTINEZ AND SNOOKY SERNA

This love team grew to popularity in the ‘80s, with films like “Summer Love,” “Bata Pa Si Sabel,” and “First Love, First Kiss” generating “kilig” among their fans. Regal Films
