MANILA – GirlTrends member Sammie Rimando admitted that she and Arjo Atayde have called it quits, following rumors that the actor is dating actress Maine Mendoza.

In an interview with DJ Jhai Ho for Hotspot 2.0, which was uploaded on the Facebook page of ABS-CBN on Wednesday, Rimando said their breakup was “for the better.”

“Okay naman po ‘yung breakup namin, hindi naman po bad breakup,” she said.

“It’s for the better naman po. Napagdesisyunan na namin na sa ngayon, focus po muna ako sa career ko,” she continued. “Happy din ako para sa kanya na ang dami niyang projects. Siyempre, andoon pa rin po ‘yung full support ko sa kanya.”

When asked if she and Atayde are still on speaking terms, Rimando replied vaguely: “Siguro text-text… Hindi ko masabi… Hindi naman tuloy-tuloy… Kamustahan, ganoon.”

It was in November 2016 when Atayde admitted that he is dating a member GirlTrends, the female counterpart of the “It’s Showtime” boy group Hashtags.

The actor, however, did not reveal his girlfriend’s name.

Just last May, Rimando casually mentioned in a DZMM interview that she and Atayde are in a relationship.

Come October, rumors surfaced that Atayde and Mendoza are a couple after they were spotted having dinner together in Makati and going clubbing in Taguig.

Asked by Jhai Ho if Mendoza had something to do with her breakup with Atayde, Rimando was visibly uncomfortable.

A voice-over can be heard toward the end of the clip, with Jhai Ho noting that Rimando opted to keep mum about the issue.
