The comedienne was one of four celebrity contenders who took the “It’s Showtime” stage, as part of the noontime program’s 10th anniversary celebration.

Along with YouTube personality Songyupsal, singer Marlo Mortel, and actor Alex Castro, Ethel Booba was part of the fifth batch of celebrities who competed in the special edition of Tawag ng Tanghalan.

Ethel Booba performed the John Farnham version of The Beatles’ “Help,” impressing the judges including “Punong Hurado” Dulce, who happened to also be a judge during her winning streak in “Sing Galing!” more than a decade back.

Dulce encouraged Ethel Booba to re-establish her image as a serious singer, in addition to her being a popular comedienne, saying it’s a talent that deserves to be heard more.

Earning the highest score from the five judges, Ethel Booba was declared the day’s winner. She will face off Saturday with previous victors, to be named champion of the celebrity edition of Tawag ng Tanghalan.
