MANILA – Jasmine Curtis-Smith is open to do a kissing scene with another woman for her independent film “Baka Bukas Puwede Na” where she plays a lesbian.

The movie is an entry to this year’s Cinema One Originals under the direction of Samantha Lee.

Speaking to entertainment site PEP, Curtis-Smith said she hasn’t done any kissing scene yet.

“If it's needed, yes. So far in my career I don't think na may naka-kissing scene na ako. So this would be a good challenge and experience for me. Kasi hindi siya simpleng just a couple na male at female, it would be a good challenge. Ang typical first onscreen kiss mo, lalaki sa babae. Siyempre mabibigla lahat ng tao, pero okay lang kasi mayroon siyang touch na kakaiba. Not only for the project but for me na rin,” she explained.

According to Curtis-Smith, she plays Alex, who falls in love with her best friend Louise.

"It touches on that (LGBT) but, more importantly, it's about a story of two human beings talaga. More than anything it's about love,” she said.

The young actress said she is also excited because this is the first time that she will be joining Cinema One Originals.

“Masaya ako kasi 'yun talaga ang gusto kong gawin, 'yung ikutan sana lahat ng film festival dito sa industriya. Gusto ko lang ma-experience. 'Yun talaga ang gusto kong gawin, gumawa ng pelikula,” she said.

Curtis-Smith said she finds it challenging to do independent movies because it is different compared to mainstream films.

“Siguro what I observe, mas wiling to collaborate 'yung mga tao in that industry. Mas may room kang makipag-usap sa boss mo, sa director mo,” she said.

“Sa independent mas carefree, may chance na mas maging free ka. Hindi ka natatakot na kahit na ano ang gawin mo. Kapag masaya ka, masaya ka. Out of the box ka talaga. At kahit in the box ka, puwede kang tumawid sa labas na hindi ka nabibigyan ng stigma na ganun ka lang,” she said.

Aside from “Baka Bukas Puwede Na,” PEP reported that Curtis-Smith is set to do another independent film but details have yet to be revealed.
