MANILA — Popoy and Jasmin have for years been a well-loved tandem on noontime radio, with their real-life bond felt in their stint as DJs giving love advice to letter senders on “Dear MOR.”

Often emotional, but always with doses of laughter, the daily episodes of the MOR 101.9 program have been a staple for many radio listeners on the road, in the office, or at home.

“Dear MOR,” however, will never be the same again with the passing of DJ Jasmin — a fact acknowledged, tearfully, by her radio partner in the Tuesday airing of their shared program.

“Wala na si Baby Girl Jasmin, Balong Junior ‘da Turd,” DJ Popoy announced, as seen in a recording of the live episode uploaded on Twitter. “Pero mananatili ang lahat ng kaniyang mga alaala sa aming mga puso.”

“Sa ating lahat na nagmamahal kay Baby Girl Jasmin, nawa po ay manatili sa inyong mga puso ang mga aral, ang mga tawanan, at ang itinuro niya sa atin na pakikipagkaibigan saan man tayo makarating sa buhay na ito,” he said.

MOR 101.9 also released on Tuesday afternoon a video tribute for DJ Jasmin, including a compilation of fun moments she had shared with DJ Popoy.

“Mami-miss kita, Manang Jasmin ko,” DJ Popoy wrote in his own Facebook page. “Kuwentuhan, asaran, payuhan na pang sa ating dalawa lang. Tunay kang kaibigan, Kasmin. Magpahinga ka na. Gabayan mo kami. Goodbye, partner. I love you.”

DJ Jasmin, or Jasmin Basar, was a DJ of the ABS-CBN radio station for 10 years, and had considered her co-workers, family. It was also through MOR 101.9 when she first shared with long-time listeners, in February 2018, that she had been battling chronic kidney disease.

DJ Jasmin had been undergoing dialysis as recently as February this year, and had been seeking a match for a kidney transplant. At the time, she would still go on air with DJ Popoy, via phone patch, from her home.

In an October 2018 interview, DJ Popoy and DJ Jasmin opened up about their friendship and radio tandem, with the latter saying that, if it happens that her health condition would result in her longer-term absences, she would be perfectly content with leaving her program to her partner.

“Kapag madalas akong absent, siya ang sumasalo sa akin. We’re supposed to be a tandem. Pero I am glad na I have a very dependable partner. Kasi for the longest time, ako ang humawak ng ‘Dear MOR.’

“So nagpapasalamat ako sa kanya, kasi ngayon ko lang talaga na-feel na puwede kong maiwan ‘yung programa anytime… Ngayon kampante na ako, na maiiwan ko ‘yung programa sa kanya,” she said.
