A local release date has been set for "Weathering With You," the new Japanese animated fantasy film from the director of "Kimi no Na wa" ("Your Name"), the most successful anime film in the country's box-office history.

This past week on its website, SM Cinema listed a single screening date for the much-anticipated movie on August 21.

It remains unclear whether this will be the only schedule for "Weathering", or the start of a local run as no further details were revealed.

Directed by Makoto Shinkai, "Weathering With You" is about a boy who meets a girl who can control weather.

It is Shinkai's newest movie following his smash hit, "Kimi no Na Wa," which became the highest-grossing animated movie in the Philippines back when it was released in December 2016.

"Weathering With You" was released in Japan this past week and has earned $15.2 million in its first three days, or nearly $3 million more than "Kimi no Na Wa" in the same time frame.

It features songs composed by Japanese band Radwimps, who also provided the official soundtrack for "Kimi no Na wa."
