Alessandra de Rossi and Paolo Contis in 'Through Night and Day'

MANILA – Did you know that the film “Through Night and Day” starring Alessandra de Rossi and Paolo Contis already had its nationwide release in cinemas before it became a hit on Netflix?

Apparently, the film came out in 2018 but was pulled out from cinemas after only three days.

“Kulang kami sa promotion. We shot mga September tapos November 14 showing na siya. No one knew I was in Iceland for a film. Walang promotion talaga. Wala akong ma-post na behind the scenes so akala nila nagbabakasyon lang ako sa Iceland and then all of a sudden, boom, showing na,” de Rossi said in an interview on Monster RX 93.1 on Wednesday.

De Rossi admitted that the movie's dismal showing made her angry.

“Hindi anger sa viewers because they really didn’t know that there was this movie. 'Yung anger ko was more like wala akong support from the team. Ako pa 'yung nagpa-set up ng mga screening sa UP para people can watch and talk about it. Ako lahat 'yung gumawa nun, ako yung kausap ng UP. Pero it was too late,” she said.

But with its belated success, de Rossi believes there’s a right time for everything.

“Ito 'yung right time when everyone’s at home, walang magawa and everyone needs pure love and understanding, no judgments so ito na 'yun,” she said.

"Through Night and Day" is currently one of the top trending movies on Netflix Philippines. It even peaked at number one at some point. It is also streaming on iWant.

The movie tells the love story between Ben (Contis) and Jen (De Rossi), a couple who travels to Iceland before getting married. But instead of it becoming the dream vacation they envisioned, it gradually turns into a bickering-filled nightmare that brings out their worst sides, making them second-guess their relationship.

Elated over its success, de Rossi said she is now the “pandemic blockbuster superstar.”
