MANILA — "Sino" hitmaker Unique Salonga takes after his father, that much was clear on Monday, as the elder Salonga joined the singing contest Tawag ng Tanghalan and won its daily edition.
Randy Salonga was one of two contenders in the "It's Showtime" segment, singing "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan" in the first round, and "One Day in Your Life" in the second.
In the new-normal version of Tawag ng Tanghalan, a fresh set of contenders face off daily, with winners clashing in the weekly final.
Weekly winners, on top of their cash prize, get to bring aid to their barangay, or place of residence. Salonga, who hails from Quezon City, wished to help his barangay by providing hygiene kits for market vendors.

Besting fellow contender Benjamin Bandol with the total score across two rounds, Salonga secured his spot in the weekly final on Saturday.
