He may have had plenty of reasons to smile for the past month, chief among them is finally receiving a college diploma. But there's no hiding that sadness in some of Jolo Revilla's musings, that the pain was almost tangible whenever he spoke like a man heartbroken.

On his Instagram account, in between photos of him smiling, he kept quoting lines about leaving things up to fate, taking comfort that there's probably a reason to why he's hurting now.

It's been rumored that he and actress Jodi Sta. Maria have called it quits. Eight years was the time they spent together, and no doubt, he'll look back at each of those with fondness.

"She brings out the best in me," he was quoted to have said in Ricky Lo's Funfare column in The Philippine Star on Wednesday.

He was asked by Lo to put an end to the suggestions that they have broken up, but the best Revilla could come up with was yet another reflective quote that's inviting fans to read between the lines.

He described their situation as "difficult," and added: "But I'm thankful kasi madami akong natutunan sa relasyon namin. Anuman ang kinakaharap namin ngayon, I believe God has a plan for us."

Revilla and Sta. Maria first revealed their relationship in 2012. They broke up four years later, but had apparently reconciled.

They had sparked marriage suggestions when Revilla called Sta. Maria his wife in an Instagram post. He said of marrying the Kapamilya star: "All I can say is the right time will come, darating tayo diyan at may mga hinihintay na lang tayo."

Rumors about their break-up shifted to high gear when fans pointed out that Revilla's birthday greeting to Sta. Maria last week sounded "respectful" and less "romantic," compared to his past posts about the actress, whom he usually referred to as "asawa" — a term of endearment now missing.

Sta. Maria also reportedly missed Revilla's recent graduation ceremony, and Revilla was not seen publicly, or on social media posts, as having spent Sta. Maria's birthday with her.
