MANILA -- Veteran actor Romeo "Bobby" Vasquez has passed away, ABS-CBN learned Wednesday. He was 78.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Vasquez's granddaughter Alyanna Martinez checked in at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in United States, confirming the death of the actor.

According to Alyanna, her Lolo Bobby is now reunited with her mother Liezl in heaven.

"Reunited now in heaven with Mama on her 32nd wedding anniversary #LoloBobby," Alyanna wrote in the caption.

Vasquez was married to former leading lady Amalia Fuentes, mother of Liezl.

A former matinee idol of Philippine Cinema, Vasquez was known for his films including "Pretty Boy (1957)," "Ako Ang Maysala (1958)," "Sapagkat Ikaw Ay Akin (1965)" and "Maruja (1967)".

He was also known as one of the leading men of Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos.

In 1994, he portrayed the role of Lauro Vizconde in the Vizconde Massacre movie.
