K-pop: IU teams up with BTS’ Suga for upcoming song

Korean singer IU will release a new song next month, which she worked on with Suga of the phenomenal K-pop boy band BTS, reports said Monday.

IU’s label, EDAM Entertainment, announced that the 26-year-old singer will release a digital single on May 6, along with an accompanying music video, according to a report from Korean entertainment news site Soompi.

The agency added that IU collaborated with BTS rapper and songwriter Suga for the upcoming track, according to the Soompi report.

The announcement gained attention from Filipino netizens on social networking platform Twitter, with the hashtag #IUxSuga leading the list of trending topics in the country early Monday.

IU, whose real name is Lee Ji-eun, debuted in 2008 under LOEN Entertainment (now Kakao M) with the album “Lost and Found.”

She achieved national popularity in South Korea through the 2010 song “Good Day,” which music publication Billboard named as the greatest K-pop song of the 2010s.

Meanwhile, Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, debuted in 2013 as part of the 7-member BTS. He is also a renowned songwriter and producer in the Korean music industry, with over 70 songs credited to him by the Korea Music Copyright Association.
