MANILA — The daytime series “Playhouse” concluded on Friday with a new beginning for the characters of Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo, as they got married again after once going through a bitter separation.

In the March 22 finale, Marlon (Marudo) and Patty (Panganiban) finally shared a home, no longer as bickering co-guardians of their godson Robin (JJ Quilantang), but as a former couple slowly inching towards reconciliation.

Wounds both figurative and literal healed. Just as Patty recovered from a critical operation as Robin’s kidney donor, so too did her relationship with Marlon.

The second wind at a happy ending came after a series of challenges, including the initial annulment of their marriage, a legal battle for the custody of Robin, and Patty and Marlon’s respective romantic involvements.

But as Marlon assured Patty as she struggled with her physical therapy, nothing kept or would keep him from running to catch her every time she falls.

That promise was eventually brought to the altar, as they exchanged vows anew as husband and wife.

The GMO Unit-produced “Playhouse,” which saw the first romantic team-up of Panganiban and Marudo, enjoyed a six-month run as the top-rating program in its time slot.

It also launched the young “love team” of Donny Pangilinan and Kisses Delavin, whose active following online made the series a consistent trending topic on social media.

With the conclusion of “Playhouse,” its time slot will be occupied starting Monday by “Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit,” a drama series starring Cristine Reyes, Kaye Abad, and child newcomer Sophia Reola.
