The release of a new song by Girls’ Generation member Kim Taeyeon has been postponed after the Korean singer’s father passed away Monday, a report said.

Taeyeon’s father passed away due to cardiac arrest on early Monday, the same day the singer was celebrating her 31st birthday and was set to release a new single, according to a report from Korean entertainment news site Soompi.

“We inform you that the release of Taeyeon’s new single ‘Hapy’ and its music video that was scheduled for today will be postponed,” said SM Entertainment, the singer’s agency, in a statement translated by Soompi.

“We will provide an announcement later regarding the plans for the song’s release,” the agency added.

Taeyeon’s name topped Twitter Philippines’ trending topics as messages from fans poured on the social network. “Papa Kim” was also in the list of top trends, referring to the singer’s father.

Taeyeon debuted in 2007 as part of Girls’ Generation, one of the prominent acts that helped propel the Korean Wave across the globe in the late 2000s.
