MANILA — Amid the controversy surrounding the wedding of Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli, a supposed statement from Pinty Gonzaga, the mother of actresses Toni and Alex Gonzaga, went viral on social media.

Mommy Pinty, as she is known to fans of her celebrity daughters, supposedly criticized Geronimo’s mother, Divine Geronimo, for meddling in the pop star’s personal life, in light of reports that she showed up enraged at the secret ceremony.

“Hindi tama iyong panghihimasukan natin bilang magulang ang buhay ng anak natin, lalo na at may isip na ‘yan at kaya nang magdesisyon para sa sarili nila,” Pinty allegedly said, in part, as quoted by YouTube videos that have been circulating on Facebook.

On Instagram Stories, Toni shared a screenshot of one such video — titled “Mommy Divine napahiya sa pahayag ni Mommy Pinty tungkol kay Sarah Geronimo — and labeled it “fake news.”

“Please stop quoting our mom,” Toni wrote. unedited. “Please practice responsible journalism. Please don’t involve her. She was never interviewed nor she gave an official statement. Please stop spreading lies.”

Pinty, like Divine, has been a familiar figure to followers of their respective children. But whereas Pinty hasn’t shied away from the limelight, frequently participating her daughter’s vlogs, Divine noticeably became less visible over the years, even as headlines contributed to her reputation of being fiercely protective of Geronimo.
