A new trailer for the first-ever live action "Pokemon" movie has been released, and it features a surprising appearance by a fan-favorite psychic legendary.

Looking his menacing best, Mewtwo floats above the chaos engulfing what appears to be Ryme City after punching through a giant, flaming Pikachu balloon, as seen in the new video.

Mewtwo's debut adds more questions to the already intriguing mystery that is the plot of "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu" --just what exactly happened to the dad of Tim (Justice Smith).

As Detective Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) muses: "Harry faked his own death, or somebody else faked Harry's death, or Harry faked somebody else's death. That last one doesn't work at all."
