Buboy (Enzo Pelojero) says goodbye to Tala (Charo Santos-Concio) and Starla (Jana Agoncillo) in the final episode of ‘Starla’ aired January 10. ABS-CBN

The titular character of “Starla” bid a tearful farewell after granting one final wish on Earth in the top-rating series’ final episode on Friday.

In the episode aptly titled “Huling Hiling,” Starla (Jana Agoncillo) was revived by the elder star Tala (Charo Santos-Concio). The aspiring wishing star died after being forced to grant a “bad wish” from Dexter (Joem Bascon).

That would have been the final wish Starla needed to grant before becoming a “full-fledged wishing star,” but because it was used for evil, it resulted in her death instead.

Witnessing Starla’s sacrifice — Dexter threatened to kill her best friend Buboy (Enzo Pelojero) if she denied his wish of filling his bank account — Tala descended on Earth and brought back Starla’s glow.

Tala saw Starla’s true intentions, and so gave her another opportunity to grant a final wish to become a full-fledged wishing star.

This time, it was from Buboy, who asked that Dexter be finally captured, for the safety of his family, Teresa (Judy Ann Santos) and Greggy (Joel Torre), as well as the residents of Barrio Maulap.

That did come true — which also meant Starla’s departure from Earth for good. She said goodbye to Buboy no longer as an aspiring wishing star, but a full-fledged one that glowed white.

Serving out her prison sentence for her past crimes, Teresa, meanwhile, returned home a year later to Barrio Maulap, where she sought to start anew.

Now, she had Philip (Raymart Santiago) at her side, in addition to her restored relationship with her father, Greggy, and her close friendship with Buboy.

In the closing scene of the series, Starla, now a wishing star who dwells in space, made herself felt from the horizon after hearing Buboy’s wish — that Teresa and Greggy would never be taken away from him — and performed, for the last time, her wish-granting dance.
