Brace yourselves, because the second season of Squid Game is slated to return to the screen soon!

After the show’s creator, Hwang Dong Hyuk, confirmed the return of the survival series in November 2021, Netflix revealed that a Season 2 is absolutely happening. “On your marks. Get set. Greenlight. Squid Game continues,” the announcement says. The following season is set to premiere on the streaming giant in 2024, as greenlighted by Dong Hyuk in June 2022.

The Korean blockbuster, which had a phenomenal pull in 2021, raking in a record-breaking viewership of 1.65 billion hours in 28 days. History was also in the making as the cast and crew of Squid Game arrived at a mileage as far as the Emmys. The production has figured in 14 nominations and a total number of six wins.

1. Four new faces were added to the cast of Season 2.

Netflix announced during its Tudum event that the drama will feature fresh faces such as Run On and Unlocked star Im Si Wan, The Glory’s Park Sung Hoon, When the Camellia Blooms’ Kang Ha Neul, and actor and rap artist Yang Dong Geun.

2. Lee Jung Jae, Wi Ha Joon, and Lee Byung Hun will be back for the second season.

It was confirmed that the characters of Lee Jung Jae, Wi Ha Joon, and Lee Byung Hun will return for a more riveting storyline in the next season. A-lister Gong Yoo will also reprise his cameo role as The Recruiter.

3. Details about The Frontman, Detective Jun Ho, and The Recruiter are likely to be let out.

In a Sunday Times interview, the show’s creator, Hwang Dong Hyuk, shared important details about The Frontman. He divulged that apart from his familial ties with Jun Ho, he is a former cop of their country, too.

4. Lee Jung Jae’s character Seong Gi Hun will have a strong comeback.

In a 2022 article by The Hollywood Reporter, Hwang Dong Hyuk announced that Seong Gi Hun has transformed into a totally different person. “Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers, I just thought about the last moment when Gi-hun turned away from boarding the plane,” he declared. “Season 2 is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”

5. A possible Season 3 is coming.

According to a 2021 Korea Times article, past the second season, Hwang Dong Hyuk declared in a KBS interview that he was discussing the possibility of a Season 3 with streaming platform Netflix. “I’m in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3,” he said in his statement.
