TOKYO — A train on a busy Tokyo line was temporarily stopped Sunday evening after a passenger reported seeing a small snake on board, with the reptile later captured. No one was injured in the incident.

The counter-clockwise service on the JR Yamanote Line, which loops around central areas of the capital, was brought to a halt at Komagome Station after the report was made by a passenger who got off at Shibuya Station.

A search by the staff of the line's operator East Japan Railway Co. was conducted for around 15 minutes, but no snake was found. The service resumed at around 6 p.m., about an hour after the report was made.

An around 20-centimeter-long snake was eventually found by the staff under the seats in a further search after the train reached its depot. The snake was handed over to the police.

According to police officials, there had been no inquiries about a missing snake. They plan to release it into the wild after confirming it is not poisonous.
