MANILA - Rush hour rides at the Philippine National Railways (PNR) have always been jampacked.

But on Wednesday night, at around 8PM, one passenger opted to climb the train's luggage compartment to make space for more people.

One of the passengers, Edmer Bade, was able to capture a photo of the man on the luggage compartment. His Facebook post eventually became viral.

According to Bade, the man climbed onto the compartment when the train stopped at FTI Station.

"Ginawa niya po 'yun nu'ng time na naglabasan po 'yung mga bababa ng FTI Station at bago pumasok po 'yung mga bagong sasakay kaya medyo lumuwag po. Kaya nakaayat sya," he said.

"Walang pumigil sa lalaki, nagulat na lang daw sila kasi mabilis nakaayat, tapos nagtawanan na lang sila," he added.

The PNR currently serves around 70,000 passengers a day.

Metro Manila commuters have often complained of hellish commutes, with congested roads and inconvenient public transport systems.

In fact, three in 10 Filipinos said their commute is the worst part of their day, according to an online survey in late 2015.

The same survey, which aimed to study Filipinos’ perceptions about the state of their commute, also revealed that 42 percent of respondents said their commute was worse than a year ago.

President Rodrigo Duterte said he planned to build more train lines to ease commuters’ woes, which he said have reached “crisis” proportions.

Traffic jams and train breakdowns have become a daily source of misery in the capital, Manila, while airports all around the country are plagued with regular delays.
