MANILA - GCash is expanding into remittances with a strategic partnership with Xendit, a leading payment gateway in the Asia Pacific region.The Ayala-led fintech said the collaboration &quot;is expected to streamline cross-border remittances&quot; as users will now be able to send money to GCash accounts with minimal processing time and fees.GCash said Xendit&#x27;s extensive payment infrastructure is designed to enable key remittance players in the APAC region to facilitate transactions to GCash users whether they are in the Philippines via international remittance or overseas, in the 16 markets where GCash is currently live for international mobile numbers.In March this year, GCash announced that overseas Filipinos could now use foreign-based SIMs to register for GCash accounts. Initially, this feature was rolled out in 13 countries and territories: US, Canada, Australia, UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, UAE, Qatar, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Singapore were also targeted for rollout. In June, the company also announced that US-based Filipinos could cash in from US banks.Christian Reyes, country general manager of Xendit Philippines said the partnership was part of the company&#x27;s goal to transform digital payments and drive financial inclusion across the APAC region.GCash International General Manager Paul Albano meanwhile said the deal makes it easier for Filipinos to remit and connect back home.
