MANILA (UPDATE 2) --  Smart Communications said it has completed repairs to its system and normalized services following several hours of service disruptions.

The telco giant on Wednesday night advised its subscribers that they may have problems with cellphone service because of a power outage at one of its facilities.

On Thursday morning Smart said it is still working to restore services in some areas and that some customers in Metro Manila, Northern Luzon, and Southern Luzon may still experience intermittent services. Later, in an advisory on its official Facebook page, Smart said it had already resolved these issues at 2:10 p.m.

"In the event that your device is unable to reconnect, refresh your connection by restarting your device/s," the telco said.

"Some customers in parts of Metro Manila, North Luzon, and South Luzon may still experience intermittent voice and SMS services. We are working to restore services as soon as possible," it added.

The disruption of Smart's telco services prompted the National Telecommunications Commission to step in and order Smart to address its service interruption.

On the outage reporting website downdetectorph, a chart showed that reports of problems with Smart's services began tapering off late last night after peaking at around 7 p.m. However, reports of service issues again started rising at around 6 a.m. Thursday.

The website showed that 71 percent reported that they had no signal, 18 percent reported problems with texting and 11 percent reported that they had issues with mobile internet.

A heatmap also showed that most of the reports on service problems came from Baguio, Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Cebu City.

As of this posting, however, downdetectorph showed that the number of outage reports had significantly gone down.
