<div><br/></div><p>MANILA - Around 60 sites will host the nationwide job fair on September 13 to address unemployment, the Department of Labor and Employment announced on Wednesday.</p><p>Over 900 employers have committed to join the event offering local job vacancies in different regions.</p><p>Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma encouraged fresh graduates to apply for work following the spike in unemployment in July. The Philppine Statistics Authority attributed the rise in unemployment to the increase in youth participants in the labor force with no work.</p><p>“Nagsi-graduate lang sila ng June at July eh. It’s not probably very ideal to interpret na makakakuha ka agad ng trabaho,” Laguesma said.</p><p>Laguesma added that around two million job vacancies have been posted from January to September.</p><p>But aside from job mismatch and skills mismatch, geographical mismatch is also a factor.</p><p>“Ang isang region, pwedeng may pangangailangan na production worker pero sa region na ‘yon, wala sila roon. Nagma-mapping ang DOLE para matignan at makaimpluwensya na ito ang dapat sa possible investors,” Laguesma said.</p><p>After unemployment climbed to 4.7 percent in July, DOLE expects more workers will be absorbed as the holiday season approaches.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7R1WQErxyeo?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></div><p>“Looking at past surveys, pagpasok ng Ber months, medyo gumaganda. We’re expecting the same scenario sa 2024. Maraming trabaho but then again, the challenge remains for the labor department to be able to create and generate more quality jobs, permanenteng trabaho,” Laguesma said.</p><p>Following criticism from a labor rights group on the government’s definition of an employed person, Laguesma explained that the Philippines conforms to the definition set by the International Labor Organization.</p><p>The Center for Trade Union and Human Rights earlier questioned the government’s definition of employment as rendering at least one hour of paid work a week.</p><p>“We cannot deviate from internationally-accepted standard and I think this is done and being implemented, accepted even by developed countries.
