<p>MANILA - Airlines on Wednesday said they support the incoming private operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport but also <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:pre-wrap;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">want the potential impact of higher fees on travel demand to be addressed.</span></p><p>In a statement, the Air Carriers Association of the Philippines (ACAP) and Board of Airline Representatives (BAR) said they expect infrastructure improvements with the looming takeover of NAIA by the San Miguel Corp-led New NAIA Infrastructure Corp (NNIC) on Sept. 14.</p><p>The groups however also advised that &quot;passengers may expect adjustments in travel costs once new airport fees are implemented.&quot;</p><p>ACAP is composed of Philippine carriers AirAsia Philippines, CebGo, Cebu Pacific, PAL Express, and Philippine Airlines, while BAR is composed of 36 local and foreign airlines. The two airline groups also said they look forward to the &quot;potential positive impact on passenger experience.&quot;</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/naizXHaZLYI?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>NNIC has said that it will add new toilets, air-conditioning units and seats, as well as repair elevators and escalators, and install glass tint to minimize heat, among other planned improvements.</p><p>ACAP and BAR however said they also expect fees to be adjusted and want the &quot;NNIC and the government to address the potential adverse effects on travel demand and to ensure that the interests of both airlines and passengers are represented.&quot;</p><p>The Department of Transportation earlier said travelers can expect the <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/2024/7/5/naia-terminal-fee-seen-to-increase-to-p950-in-2025-1747" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">NAIA terminal fee</a> to increase to up to P950 from the current P550 in 2025 after NNIC takes over the airport. Other charges like landing fees and take-off fees for airlines may also be adjusted.</p><p>&quot;We look forward to positive outcomes for all stakeholders in the course of the transition to privatized airport management and we earnestly await the holding of consultation meetings by NNIC that will clearly outline the steps to be taken for the upcoming transition on September 14,” said ACAP and BAR.</p><p>The two groups said they hope the adjustment in fees will result in enhanced operational efficiency at NAIA, and improve customer experience.
