MANILA -- FedEx is set to expand its Philippine hub in Clark, Pampanga.

In a statement, FedEx said it has signed an agreement with Clark International Airport operator Luzon International Premiere Airport Development to expand and upgrade its gateway in central Luzon.

FedEx said it wants to double the size of its current facility and add more aprons and taxiways to improve cargo handling and spur growth in the logistics sector.

The global logistics giant said this move will support both importers and exporters, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and heavy-weight freight shippers, with greater and more reliable access to and from international markets.

FedEx also said the bigger hub will create more jobs in the local community.

“Since our establishment in 1984 in the Philippines, we remain committed to continuously enhancing our network and service offerings to support the growing needs of our customers and strengthen their connection to overseas markets," said FedEx Philippines managing director Maribeth Espinosa.

FedEx first opened its Clark gateway in 2021. The 17,000-square-meter facility can sort up to 9,000 parcels per hour.
