<p>MANILA (UPDATED) - Meralco said it has restored power to hundreds of thousands of households and establishments that lost power at the height of the onslaught of typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.  </p><p>In a statement, the power distributor said that as of 10 a.m. Thursday the number of affected customers was down to around 330,000 from around 600,000 on Wednesday.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CXqDnoJZBU4?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>The company said it is working round the clock to immediately restore electricity service to affected customers. </p><p> Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said the majority of these unenergized area are in Metro Manila, Bulacan and Rizal.</p><p>Zaldarriaga added that Meralco crew will start the restoration process once flood water has subsided to ensure the safety of the residents and the crew. </p><p>&quot;The outages are predominantly due to heavy flooding across Meralco’s service areas. Fallen trees and foreign objects obstructing power lines also caused power disruptions in several areas,&quot; Meralco said in a separate statement. </p><p>Meralco has also asked residents who have experienced flooding to ensure that their appliances and electrical connections are in good condition before using them.</p><p>It said the heavy rains and flooding significantly impacted the Meralco franchise. </p><p>“The safety of our customers and Meralco line crews is our top priority as we continue to actively monitor the situation,” Zaldarriaga said. </p><p>He said Meralco personnel would be deployed to restore power in the affected areas once the floodwaters receded and it was safe for repair crews to work. </p><p>Meanwhile, Meralco reiterated the following safety tips for customers who are affected by flooding: </p><p>• Ensure that the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker is off. Be sure to be dry when being in contact with any electrical facility. </p><p>• Unplug appliances from wall sockets. Turn off permanently connected equipment and unscrew all light bulbs if possible.</p><p> • Remove mud and dirt from service equipment or main circuit breaker/fuse and its enclosure using rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes.</p><p> • Make sure that all electrical wires, connectors, and other wiring devices are completely dry.</p><p> • When all electrical wires and accessories have dried and are clean, the wiring system of all appliances must be checked by a licensed electrician.
